Waters Pioneers Innovative Solutions for Life, Materials, and Food Sciences

Waters Corporation has pioneered chromatography, mass spectrometry, and thermal analysis innovations serving the life, materials, and food sciences for more than 60 years. Recently, for example, Waters announced waters_connect System Monitoring, a new software-as-a-service application that enables laboratory managers and analysts to monitor the real-time status of any chromatography instruments, regardless of the manufacturer, running on Waters Empower Software.

According to executives, the waters_connect System Monitoring application was developed especially for high-volume quality assurance and quality control laboratories. They say it can reduce the turnaround time of product release samples and facilitate the planning and progress of critical analyses via live, at-a-glance dashboard views of the operational status of chromatography instruments. The cloud-native application also helps lab managers utilize capital resources better by providing an understanding of instrument history and usage levels and improve the productivity of their teams.

"Our mission is to solve the problems that matter," says Arni-Elei Costa, Senior District Sales Manager. "From helping with the Covid-19 vaccine development to manufacturing drugs that people use every day, it's all happening under Waters' roof. To do this, we work with the top pharma companies and provide the analytical tools they need to develop life-saving drugs, and ensure the purity and quality of the medicines, food, and water we consume."

In 2022, Waters received more than 20 awards recognizing the company for excellence in product innovation, leadership strength, and commitment to social and environmental responsibility. Inclusion in Dow Jones Sustainability Index and Barron's 100 Most Sustainable Companies reflects strength in Waters' Environmental, Social, and Governance business practices and policies, executives say.

"We are helping to make an impact on energy emissions and reducing greenhouse gas production," according to Costa. "This is an issue that is top of mind across the country, but it is also something we are working to improve right here in our local lab. In doing so, we are not only saving money but we are also being environmentally responsible with the materials we use."

The corporation has products available in more than 100 countries. Its operations in more than 35 countries include 14 manufacturing facilities and over 8,200 employees. Its Customer Excellence Center is located at Hacienda, where it became a tenant in 2009.

"Being involved in the biopharma space in the Bay Area is one of the best places to be, because it's where new modalities and therapies are coming to life," notes Costa. "Seeing the impact of our mission come to life in our geographic area is incredibly rewarding for our team. Our community is small and close knit, and I want people to know they can come in and see exactly what we do at Waters. If you've had a cup of coffee this morning, a bottle of water, eaten breakfast, or taken any medicine, you've most likely experienced the benefit from our products. We are excited to share with our customers and community how this impact comes to life at our site through the  classes, seminars, and lab demonstrations happening here at our Customer Excellence Center."
