Dahlin Group Creates Innovative Designs That Enrich Communities

Hacienda is home to one of the best architecture firms in the business; the Dahlin Group is an awarding winning architecture and planning firm that is driven by a vision to enhance environments where people live and interact.

As one of the largest architectural firms in the Bay Area, the Dahlin Group is a full-service architecture and planning firm in residential architecture, community and recreational facilities, commercial buildings, urban design and custom homes.

In January the Dahlin Group was inducted into the 2016 Best in American Living Awards' Hall of Fame class. The award highlights the most creative and innovative projects in the building industry for 2016.

Douglas P. Dahlin, firm founder, and John M. Thatch, Senior Principal and Design Director, accepted the award on behalf of the firm at the American Living Awards Gala during the annual National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) International Builders' Show.

"Personally, it has been my privilege to be a part of a firm committed to creating innovative designs for builders that are contextually relevant, enduring, buildable and marketable. It is a wonderfully rewarding achievement for the many talented designers and planners, who are the heart of the firm, to receive the industry's affirmation of our long-standing commitment," said John Thatch.

What made the receiving the award and recognition even more special was it came on the firm's 40th anniversary. Dahlin Group, which started as a small residential architecture and planning firm, is now a global firm with four offices in California, an office in Bellevue, Washington and offices in Beijing and Shanghai, China, operating in both residential and non-residential markets.

"Our deepest roots are in the homebuilding industry, and as such, it is an immense honor to be recognized by our industry peers, clients, and friends," said Doug Dahlin.

Their design solutions are innovative with the intent to enrich peoples' lives by giving them the feeling of place and home. They have a collaborative approach to sustainable design that is creative, intentional and responsive to the changing nature of a community. The vision for every Dahlin Group project is to enhance a community with a well-thought-out design solution that establishes a balance between aesthetics and function.

The Dahlin Group was also awarded the National Association of Home Builders's Gold Award for its project in Costa Mesa called Miraval, which is a development of ten contemporary California-styled homes. NAHB salutes and honors the best in the building industry for their determination, integrity, creativity and endurance.

Their headquarters in Hacienda is itself a stunning and award winning display of architectural design. They received the LEED Silver certification in 2008 for the transformation of an old insurance office building into Dahlin Group's transit-oriented headquarters. The design promotes a collaborative, team-oriented environment, and has become a mini-laboratory for sustainable design and on-site educational opportunities for employees and visitors.

With an eye to the future and the next 40 years, Dahlin President Nancy Keenan said "Our commitment and passion for creating communities and homes, whether they be affordable or market rate, for seniors or millennials, that bring dignity and inspire joy is a driving factor that will push Dahlin forward over our next forty years."
