Borders Books Offering Corporate Discounts, New Lunchtime Workshops

Borders Books, Music, & Cafe is offering two programs of potential interest to its corporate neighbors in Hacienda: corporate discounts and twice-a-month Brown Bag Lunch Seminars.

Corporate Discount Accounts

Borders offers discounts from 10 to 25 percent on business-related purchases to companies which open accounts with the store.

"We offer two different corporate accounts," says Amy Atkinson, Borders' corporate account representative. "Charge accounts allow businesses to purchase merchandise and pay for it once per month, and discount only accounts require payment upon purchase."

The items purchased must be used by the business in some way.

"Our number one business seller is our computer section," says Atkinson. "We have a huge selection of books, plus things like Thomas Guide maps, which a lot of businesses use for travel for their employees."

Items besides books are also eligible. For instance, if a company plays CDs to telephone callers who are put on hold, any CDs purchased at Borders for that purpose would qualify for the corporate discount.

Opening an account requires filling out a simple, one-page application. At the time the account is opened, each company may specify the names of individuals who are entitled to use the account.

Computer Training Firm Offers Discount to Hacienda Tenants

Computer Training Source, a company offering classes in a variety of computer programs and operating systems, is offering a 10 percent discount off their standard pricing to Hacienda tenants.

The company offers classes in programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Act, PowerPoint, Windows NT and 95, Microsoft Office, Netscape Navigator, and more. On-site and custom classes are also available.

Brown Bag Lunch Seminars

Borders is also introducing a new series of Brown Bag Lunch Seminars. These workshops, scheduled for the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, will present topics of interest to local business people.

Recent seminar topics have included tax tips for people who have relocated as well as the colorfully titled, "Fire Captain Bob will Show You How to Eat Stress for Lunch."

The seminars begin at 12:10 and finish at 12:50, allowing 10 minutes for participants to travel to and from the store. The Borders Cafe offers a lunch special, but those in attendance are welcome to bring a lunch as well.

The March 26th seminar will feature representatives from Account Temps talking about the temporary employment market.

"We're always looking for volunteers, too," adds Atkinson. "If someone has some business-related information they'd like to share, they can come use us as a stage."

Call Atkinson or James Crane for more information.
