Total Wellness Discovery Opens Showroom

Offers Opportunity to Experience Range of Healthy Living Products

Peter Patras and Dawn Tamaribuchi, husband and wife and co-owners of Total Wellness Discovery, opened their new office and showroom at 4825 Hopyard Road in April to provide a place for people to experience first hand the products the company offers. Total Wellness Discovery is a distributor for Nikken Corporation, a global provider of wellness products that include sleep systems, fitness products, clothing, supports and wraps, nutritional supplements, and systems for purifying air and water.

Tamaribuchi has been involved with Nikken products since 1998. Through Tamaribuchi, Patras became involved in 2003 after a dramatic change in his life.

"I had a very life-changing experience," says Patras. "I was electrocuted in 1996. After that I had a chronic pain problem. I also had asthma. I met my wife, Dawn, at that time, and she helped me out with my medical condition, using Nikken products. I reduced my medication by 95%. That's when I became interested in helping other people. I learned that there are ways where people don't have to be on medication all the time, because the body has the power to heal itself. That's what introduced me to this approach to health."

Nikken describes its products as natural energy products designed to support the company philosophy that the way to total wellness is to achieve a balanced life, and that a balanced life involves more than just physical well-being. It involves a healthy body, a healthy mind, a healthy family, a healthy society and healthy finances.

"We want to educate people and companies and let them know that by changing their lifestyle a little, not too much," says Patras, "they can improve the quality of their life. Our goal is basically to educate people, educate companies, and go from there. We want to focus more on education than sales. The Nikken products sell themselves when people know about them and what they can do." Many Nikken products feature patented technologies researched and developed by Nikken Corporation in Japan. A number of products are based on the precise creation and application of magnetic fields. Nikken's first product, a magnetic insole, is still one of the most popular.

Another specialized application involves the use of a fabric containing ceramic fibers that reflect far-infrared energy. Infrared energy is emitted by any object that produces heat (including, for example, people). Far-infrared is the upper end of the infrared wavelength range, a range Nikken says stimulate cells of the body in beneficial ways. Bedding and clothing made of this special fabric reflect the far-infrared radiation generated by the body to provide natural warmth.

"One of the main reasons we created the showroom was to have a place where people could come in and see these products for themselves," says Tamaribuchi. "Most of our products are experiential. We can tell people how great they are until we're blue in the face, but until they actually see the products and experience them for themselves, they won't really have a good idea as to their enormous value."

Total Wellness Discovery showroom hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 6:00. Wellness Previews are every second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 7:30 to 8:30.
